Just saying Operation Baking Gals makes me want to say, “mount up” or “move out”, like we’re Transformers or something (lol). I decided to become a part of a wonderful group of bakers to support our troops. I joined Team Oven Loving for the Recovering led by the lovely Joy of Hot Oven, Warm Heart. The treats that we bake go to recuperating soldiers. They will be shared at a special event that is held every Friday for the soldiers and their families.
I decided to bake two (and new for me) items: brownies and Pumpkin Blondies. I sent all of the brownies, but had a few blondies left over that would not fit in the container to be shipped. Mr. G even got a little miffed that I didn’t make extra brownies for him because he did not particularly care for the Fallen Chocolate Souffle’ Cake I made a few days ago (plus we had the Pear and Pecan Upside Down Cake in the house as well). The brownie crumbs I did have were very good though.
It was a pleasure taking some time out to make these treats for a group of recuperating soldiers and their families. No matter what your views on the war is, I believe we all should support our troops both here and abroad.
Thanks Joy for all of the facilitation in getting this done! I look forward to participating again next month!
